Welcome to Donna Hackney Photography, the photo studio for belly, birth and baby photography.
Over the last ten years, hundreds of women of all shapes and sizes have experienced feeling beautiful and having a work of art created for them through their photography experience with me. This has been an amazing and transformative experience for all the women and their families. Whether it is in your home or in my studio, I know that this photography session will be special - different from anything you have done before.
You are commissioning my talent to create a fine-art photograph of you and your family. With more than ten years of experience as a photojournalist and a fine-art photographer, I will capture those special feelings surrounding you, your partner and this pregnancy. You are going to feel special and beautiful. I am more than a photographer, I am creating an experience and an image you will treasure. Don't risk settling for an imitation. There are no such things as reshoots with maternity photography.

Your experience begins in a relaxed setting looking at photographs with me, we will discuss what you like about the photographs, what you like about your body and what your vision is for you final art photographs. These are important questions to help guide the photography. Then we will go into the studio and look at the many different clothing options and if needed we can do some basic yoga or other relaxation exercises, and begin. Get ready to have some fun creating your unique image with a photographer who has photographed hundreds of women! You and I collaborate to find a style that fits your tastes and works within your comfort zone using fabrics and clothing.
If you are like most of my mothers, after the experience, you walk away feeling beautiful and see your body in a new way. Your photograph is more than a portrait, it is a beautiful piece of artwork that shows you your beauty and reminds you forever of this special nine months. Choose your special session
I am best known for my maternity photography sessions. When you come in for a pregnancy photo shoot, I want you to walk away feeling beautiful and seeing your body in a new way. I am trained as a documentary photographer and capture those special moments between a couple and their family, I pride myself on my ability to personally tailor each session to you. By having conversations with all potential clients, I get a better knowledge of what you are looking for in not only your photos, but in your entire experience with me. All photography sessions include a personal edit with me either in person or on the phone, regarding cropping, enhancing and framing suggestions if you desire my help.
I am devoted to delivering fine art photography, with a documentary photographer's sensibility, and the highest quality images possible. My years of experience and expertise in maternity and family photography is a large reason why my clients continue to recommend me year after year.

When to schedule
Please plan on scheduling your maternity photography session six to ten weeks before your due date. Of course if you are closer than that, just give me a call. I have been known to do some creative scheduling to fit you in. Schedule your newborn baby shoot within the first week or two for the best squishy baby pictures ever! I am by appointment only. If you don't hear back from me within two business days, please call or email again because, on occasion, technology blips and prevents me from receiving your inquiry.
Photography Sessions
The Celebrate Your Belly Session
For this creative and fun session 1.5 hours is usually enough time.  
But If you decide you would like spend a more time experimenting in the studio or going on location nearby we can do that. An additional hourly rate may be charged if more time is needed.
This session includes:
Three rolls of film or digital images shot and the best 30 - 45 images will be made available as your
proof images and uploaded to your private gallery on line.

A 30 minute personal edit session with me either in person while looking at the digital proofs in my
studio, or on the phone while looking at digital proofs on your own password-protected online gallery if you desire my help.
The Celebrate Your Birth Session
Here I get to use my documentary skills I also try really hard to disappear! You will forget Im even there. I have photographed many births and learned from my experience as a birth doula that the last thing anyone ever needs or wants is another person in the room while your going through this transformational experience. If you can imagine how wonderful it would be to have the experience documented its well worth the investment to have someone designated to do just that instead of trying to rely on your partner or if your lucky a nurse who isn't busy taking care of you to snap a few. Many times those who are with you are so distracted by what is going on that they forget to get any pictures! An additional travel fee is charged.
This session includes:
5 hours of Photography
7 rolls of film or digital equivalent shot and then only the best 75-100 images will be made available as
your proof photographs, these will fully document the birth.

And a 30 minute personal edit session with me either in person while looking at the digital proofs in my
studio,or on the phone while looking at digital proofs on your own password-protected online gallery if you desire my help.
The Celebrate Your Baby Session
This baby shoot takes more time so I allow up to 2 hours if needed to complete this shoot. We try to keep this shoot as relaxed as possible and allow time to feed and change the baby if needed. If you would like me to come to your home and set up my studio I will gladly do that for an additional travel and studio set up fee.
This session includes:
Three rolls of film or digital images shot and the best 30 - 45 will be made available as your proof
images and uploaded to your own private web gallery.

A 30 minute personal edit session with me either in person while looking at the digital proofs in my
studio, or on the phone while looking at digital proofs on your own password-protected online gallery if you desire my help.

How to prepare for a successful photography session
 Schedule your photo session on a day that you, your partner and your children (if they are going to be in the shoot) will be relaxed and well rested. Try not to schedule too many appointments on that day before or after the shoot.
 At least two hours before our shoot, please try to remove anything with elastic, such as a tight shirt, pants, underwear or a bra to prevent strap marks from appearing on your skin. For NEWBORN shoots please have baby fed and bare skinned wrapped loosely in a diaper and receiving blanket. I will be sure to have the room nice and warm so baby feels comfortable.
 Eat a light snack before the shoot.
 Make-up should be light and natural looking. A light foundation, blush etc. to even out skin tones is perfect. Too much eyeliner or eye shadow can look very dark on film. If you want me to recommend a professional do your make-up, please allow me to make a recommendation. If you can bring a pair of tiny underwear covering the least amount of skin possible, but so you still feel comfortable in a nude color that would be very helpful if you don't want to be totally nude

 Special jewelry is a nice accessory to the photographs, though too much jewelry can be distracting. If you have any questions, just bring it along.
 Hair should be fixed so you are comfortable with it. Some mothers prefer to go to a stylist before the shoot; others prefer to fix their hair on their own. If you want us to have a stylist during your shoot, please let me know.
 Feel free to bring anything that you feel good in or want to be included in the photograph, including flowers or special clothing, such as scarves, shawls, clothing.
 If you are being photographed with your partner, please have him/her bring or wear dark pants and a solid dark and light shirt, long or short sleeved is fine.  Denim is great for the pants. Mothers should bring a dark maternity skirt and black cardigan sweater and tank top -- something to cover the breasts but still expose the belly.
 If the shoot is in your home, only the family should be present to prevent distractions.
